Postojna, with its 12,000 inhabitants, evokes the famous caves that have welcomed over 38 million visitors since the 19th century. It's one of Slovenia's must-visit sites and an emblematic Slovenian destination. The attraction is sanitized. Postojna is nonetheless a majestic site. You begin your visit by travelling through a section of the 24 km of galleries, tunnels and impressive chambers, aboard a small electric train, before continuing your journey on foot. You're sure to come across the famous protée anguillard. There are also wilder, more authentic caves to discover nearby.
