With a population of 11,600, it is the largest settlement in the valley. The small town is 88 km from Ljubljana. The valley's only railway station is in Most na Soči (6 km), making it relatively accessible. The town was awarded the prestigious institutional title of Alpine City of the Year in 2016. This distinction notably salutes the quality of its memorial sites, as well as its immediate proximity to unmissable natural sites. It's a little paradise for fly-fishing enthusiasts. More surprisingly, it boasts an eclectic music scene, epitomized by the Metaldays hard-rock festival, Slovenia's Hellfest.
