Coron Island is definitely one of the most beautiful islands in the Philippines. It offers a unique rocky landscape made of karst cliffs up to 600 m high. About 2,000 indigenous Tagbanuas live here; tourists are only allowed on certain parts of the island. Coron Island has a number of beautiful emerald lakes. Travelers can access two of these lakes: Kayangan (rumored to be the purest in the Philippines) and Barracuda. The swim at Kayangan is memorable (you have to ignore the crowd, or go very early in the morning): you are surrounded by cliffs colonized by vegetation while moving in emerald water. At Barracuda Lake, snorkelers and divers are welcome, and it is possible to see barracudas. It is curious to see the differences in temperature between very cold and very warm water layers; the water is quite turbid and is 20 meters deep. Along the coast, there are many small beaches and coves that invite you to relax. Coron Island can be discovered during an excursion called island hopping. There are almost no hotels on the island which is protected. Coron Bay is popular with divers from all over the world for its wrecks of Japanese ships sunk in 1944 by the Americans. After 80 years, they are in a remarkable state of preservation, some covered with coral. Incredible.
