Batad is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in the Philippines, and a must for any traveler to northern Luzon. The views over the rice paddies, particularly at sunrise and sunset, are spectacular. Indescribable, grandiose, unreal landscapes. And nestled in the heart of it all, the village of Batad. It seems to have survived the passage of time without a single wrinkle: native houses on stilts, no electricity, just the sound of the river below and the crowing of roosters. No cars, no tricycles, nothing, just peace and quiet. Just 500 discreet souls, living almost self-sufficiently, and a few courageous tourists, sometimes the laughter of children echoing from the school perched high above, sometimes the echo of a crackling radio. And let's face it, Batad has to be earned... Indeed, it's not easy to get to. But once you're there, what satisfaction! I've fallen in love with this place!
