Situated on the southern slopes of Mont Dore, at an altitude of 1,050 m, this small town, which was called Besse-en-Chandesse until 1961, has kept beautiful evidence of its medieval past. Its town centre dates from the 15th and 16th centuries. Along the small cobbled streets and pretty residences, you will see in particular: the castle of the Bailiff (chemin de ronde), the church Saint-André (place de l'Eglise), the house known as the house of Queen Margot (rue de la Boucherie), the manor Sainte-Marie-des-Remparts, the city gate and the belfry (place du Petit-Mèze).
