Formerly called Öndörkhaan, the capital of the Khentiyaimag was renamed Chinggis City in November 2013 to pay tribute to Chinggis Khaan. This one would indeed be born nearby, in Binder, not far from Dalal (Bayan-Ovoo). The city stretches its population of 21,000 on the banks of the Kherlen River. It is home to a large number of Buryats. The dwellings are more often small wooden houses than the traditional ger of other regions of the country, the Khentiy having vast forests gradually exploited. The city, relatively small, is articulated around a central park which concentrates all the conveniences.
