The city of Khovd, with the same name as theaimag, is located in the northern part of the Altai Mountains, at the foot of the Yamaat Ulaan mountain, and near the large Khar-Us lake. It is the most developed city in the west of the country, as it has some light industries. It is located at an altitude of 1,405 m, 1,425 km from Ulaanbaatar and has a population of about 28,000 inhabitants, composed of sixteen ethnic groups. Among them, live in good understanding Myangads, Dörvöds, Khalkhas, Torguuds... The sum of Khovd is a very good place to discover the habits and customs of the Kazakh populations, which are largely majority there.
