This small town, located 76 km south of Olgiy, is inhabited almost exclusively by Kazakh people. It is framed by a large lake and a mountain range that both bear its name. The road from Olgiy is rough and lined with glacial moraines. In the surroundings, one can easily observe, especially in winter, the local populations hunting with their eagles, a Kazakh specialty that seems to resist well to time. The tradition goes back to more than 2,000 years, and allows hunters to catch marmots, foxes and even wolves, without damaging their fur.
