The capital of the Dundgoviaimag is a small town of 12,000 inhabitants, asleep in the torpor of the emerging desert. The city, which for the administration is actually called Saintsagaan, is recent, since it began to resemble an urban area only in 1942. For several decades, however, it has been suffering from desertification, which has already caused almost half of the local population to flee in twenty years. The metallurgical industry that employed hundreds of workers closed in the 1990s, without being replaced by other poles of activity. Even if it is not very lively, the city is a nice stop on the road to Dalanzadgad and the Gobi desert. It cuts in two this long way.
