Known as "White Lake", this large lake of 161 km ² is the result of the volcanic eruption of Mount Khorgo. The lava has blocked the Terkh River to the north and to the south, resulting in the formation of a natural dam, and thus of this lake, located at 2 060 meters above sea level. The shores of the "large white lake" are wooded and surrounded by craters and coulées lava flows that give the landscape a very special atmosphere. The zone serves as a stage for many migratory birds, especially as the lake, volcano and surrounding area are now included in the National park of Khorgo Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur. It will be necessary to carry out a 3 000 T entrance right. Shallow (between 4 and 10 metres), the lake is suitable for fishing (perch and pike above all) but also for bathing.The closest village to the lake is called Non (ТАРИАТ). With barely 7 000 inhabitants, there is little to do or to see. It is 4 km from the lake, but has two hotels, the best of which is White Lake Hotel (tel: (99) 81 90 94), completed in early 2010 and opened all year round. Built in wood, it has 7 rooms from 3 to 4 beds (from 15 000 to 20 000 T at night), from a restaurant, toilets in the bottom of the garden and showers not always in good term with hot water. Next to the hotel is a small grocery store which has a room reserved for the Internet. Two positions are available. Even if they are often stormed by the premises, they do not hesitate to take a short break to allow the visitor to consult his or her email or site.
