Travel Guide Khatgal

This village, located in the south of the Mongolian "blue pearl", at the mouth of the Egiin river, is the ideal place to prepare a stay around the lake. It has indeed comfortable accommodations, and most of its guesthouses offer services such as travel agencies: horse rental, organization of hikes, motorized outings...Khatgal stretches along the western shore of Khövsgöl Lake. It owes most of its recent development to tourism and this should accelerate because, recently, the road between Möron and Khatgal is paved, which makes it more accessible. Few inhabitants of this small town speak the language of Shakespeare, but the young people voluntarily seek contact with foreigners and stammer a few words of English. Many take advantage of the season to earn some money by selling handicrafts (slippers, stockings, deel, hats, necklaces...). Khatgal is really a pleasant place, which has become over the years a must in a stay in Mongolia, and the starting point of all excursions around the lake, and towards the region where the Tsaatan live.
