The town grew up within the 12th-century castle walls. Aubière is also marked by its winegrowing past. Strolling through the town, we are reminded of this by the winegrowers' houses, with their vats on the first floor. On the slopes overlooking the town, the cellars built between the 16th and 19th centuries form an astonishing site. There are no fewer than 900 of them! To perfect your knowledge of viticulture, head for the Musée de la vigne et du vin, which boasts a fine collection of traditional tools and a scenography retracing the cycle of the vine. Stop off at Les Sauzes, home to the Pont d'Aubière menhir.
