Madre de Deus is an archipelago in the Bay of All Saints. Beyond the island of Madre de Deus stricto Sensu, the archipelago is composed of the islands of Maria Guardia, Vacas and Coroa de Capete. It can be accessed from the mainland by a bridge. Its economic importance is major, but what holds the interest of visitors is the beauty of its nature and its rich ecosystem of restinga, mangrove and mata atlantica. Historical buildings are worth a visit: the house of the two lions (Casa dos dois Leaos) and that of Antonio Balbino, former governor, as well as beautiful fountains and churches. Seafood is the main dish in the restaurants.
