The Chico Rei mine, with its narrow, dark galleries, is ideal for the non-claustrophobic sportsman.
One cannot leave Ouro Preto without visiting what made its legend, in the blood, sweat and tears of ebony wood. In total, 1,500 m of narrow and dark galleries, an inhospitable setting in which slaves worked to extract gold from the Chico Rei mine. This Congolese king was deported as a slave and managed to free himself by buying back his freedom and even bought this mine for himself. The visit is for sporty people who are not claustrophobic, as the passages are cramped in the slippery rock.
