The small island of Paquetà (a place full of shells in the Guarani language) seems like a timeless place just a stone's throw from the bustling capital of Carioca. Time seems to have stood still. Few, if any, private cars but electric carts, no traffic, no pollution and a real sense of security. Charming little houses with low stone walls seem to pose gracefully for the lenses of the few visitors. Nature is omnipresent. One of the attractions is the enormous baobab tree affectionately known as "Maria Gorda". The island is surrounded by reefs and offers superb diving spots.
