This is the last wonder of Rio, the "museum of tomorrow" which, by its building and permanent collection, is indeed quite futuristic, mixing art and science, and questioning humanity on the issues of the planet's environmental degradation, from a scientific, social and ecological point of view.

The building. With its neighbor MAR, another museum inaugurated in 2014, it gives new impetus to this port area close to the center, rehabilitated as an incredible cultural life. The project that cost R $ 230 million was opened by Dilma Rousseff in December 2015. Located on a pier facing the ocean in Guanabara Bay on the new Praça Mauá transformed into Porto Maravilha, the new building is unfailing. Realized by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, this 15,000 m ² white building recalls the bromellias of the Mata Atlântica forest in Rio. It is designed with renewable energy systems: solar spines located on the roof all around an orchard are guided by climatic conditions to capture solar energy, water from the sea is used to air the building and reuse for the water mirrors surrounding it. The museum wants to register as a research and scientific reflection center on environmental issues.

The visit. The exhibition examines the dangers of environmental degradation that cause unprecedented humanitarian and social disasters. However, we are disappointed at the demagogic side of the museum: to explain that the planet is at risk, the speech is accompanied by American-style catastrophic films, passed on plasma screens with a great boost of energy-intensive lights… The introduction geode is a good attraction, as is the photo room on cultures and humanity. The rest is an informative scientific summary for who has dried SVT courses, thanks to interactive screens that will delight the smallest by its playful and futuristic appearance. However, visitors who are already absorbed by their smartphone and computer screens are asked to dive into other plasma screens to speak environment and nature…
