Church symbolizing the apotheosis of São Francisco, with Brazil's first perspective painting on the ceiling

One of the richest Baroque churches of the 18th century. It was inaugurated in 1737. On the ceiling, one can admire the first perspective painting made in Brazil: it symbolizes the apotheosis of São Francisco and was made from 1737 to 1740 by Caetano da Costa Coelho. At the exit, a small terrace overlooks the north-western part of the city, and in front of it stands the gate of the cemetery of the third religious order built at the beginning of the 19th century in neoclassical style.
