Located halfway between Ciutadella and Maó, Es Mercadal was created in the 14th century to serve as a relay between the two main towns of the island during the Catalan-Aragonese repopulation. A visit to this small village nestled in a valley at the foot of Monte Toro is therefore a must. Its Minorcan architecture and 18th century parish church are well worth a visit, as are its good restaurants. Also worth mentioning is the Tower of Cala Molí, built by the English and located on the peninsula that separates the coves Molí and Addaia. For some years now, Es Mercadal has been the scene of intense cultural activity throughout the year
