With almost 10,000 inhabitants, Alaior is the island's third-largest urban center. The town was founded by King James II of Aragon in the early 14th century. In addition to the newly restored 17th-century baroque fortified church and cloister of the former Sant Dídac d'Alaior convent, this big white village is home to a new contemporary art museum, the LOÂC. Strolling through Alaior's narrow streets and lingering in its little squares is a pleasant experience. Here, a third of the inhabitants are employed in shoe manufacturing, but the village is also renowned for its dairy products and artisanal Biniarbolla liqueur. A perfect stopover!
