Things to see and do Ciutadella

The Bastió de sa Font, located near the town hall and Plaça des Born, is one of the few remaining vestiges of the fortified enclosure built in the ^17th century to replace the medieval wall, which was extensively damaged during the Turkish sacking of 1558. After having served as an extension to the Ciutadella Municipal Museum, this site, owned by the municipality, now fulfils the museum's conservation and research functions. In particular, it houses a dedicated space for researchers.

This imposing bastion is one of the few remains of the ^17th-century wall that once surrounded the town of Cuitadella. Although its origins date back to the ^14th century, after the town became part of the Catalan-Aragonese Crown, the wall was largely rebuilt after the Turkish invasions of 1558, albeit along the original line. Overlooking the harbor, the bastion offers visitors a breathtaking view of its sparkling waters. The town hall now occupies the interior of the former ramparts.

Covering an area of 42,420 m², the ancient talayotic village of Son Catlar, located on the road between Ciutadella and Son Saura, was occupied until Roman times (123 B.C.) and features circular talayots (the site's oldest structures) and a cyclopean wall almost 900 metres long. The latter is the only prehistoric wall preserved in its entirety in which the talayotic construction system and the later square towers attached to it can be distinguished.

Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria referred to it in his Die Balearem as Menorca's most beautiful residence. The palace is a refined example of neoclassical Menorcan civil architecture. From the grand staircase that welcomes you to the sumptuously decorated rooms, the noble residence is brimming with antique furniture and priceless works of art. During your visit, you'll also have access to the rooftop terrace with its breathtaking views over the square.

The Llabrés pharmacy is a jewel of modernism. This historic building, founded in 1842 by the Llabrés family and located on one of the town's most emblematic streets, served as a pharmacy until 1985. Many years later, and after a painstaking rehabilitation process, the premises are now used for the activities of the Menorca Foundation for the Disabled, while remaining open to the public and tourists, so that they can enjoy one of the few remaining witnesses to Modernism in Menorca.

A fine example of Minorcan civil Baroque, the Can Saura manor house was built between the late ^17th and ^18th centuries. Today, it houses the collections of the Cuitadella Municipal Museum. The permanent exhibition unfolds its treasures over two floors and fifteen rooms, featuring interesting archaeological remains and ethnographic objects tracing the town's history. A section is also devoted to the Midsummer Festivities.
