Petit Futé's opinion on ILLA DEL REI

Vintage plate 2020

Located in the middle of the port of Mahón, the King's Island was named after Alfonso II of Catalonia and III of Aragon, who first landed there during the conquest of the island in 1287. The island is home to two major sites of interest: the ruins of an early Christian basilica and an old military hospital that earned it the nickname "Bloody Island". The latter has been rehabilitated after many years of decadence and transformed into a museum dedicated to medicine housing the Colección Médica-Biológica Hospital Isla del Rey.
