The King's Island is home to two major sites of interest, including the ruins of an early Christian basilica and an old military hospital
Situated in the middle of the port of Maó, Isla del Rey was named after Alfonso II of Catalonia and III of Aragon, who first landed there during the conquest of the island in 1287. The island is home to two major sites of interest: the ruins of a Paleochristian basilica and a former military hospital that earned it the nickname "Bloody Island". The latter has been restored after many years of decadence and transformed into a museum dedicated to medicine, housing the Colección Médica-Biológica Hospital Illa del Rei.
