On the other side of the spit of land that ends at Cap des Salines, Santanyí is another fortified village from the Middle Ages, which still boasts a beautiful medieval gateway, the Porta Murada, a vestige of a time when many pirates plundered this part of the Mediterranean. The village church is also worth a visit, housing a Baroque organ and the small Capilla Dans Roser chapel, a remarkable Romanesque-Gothic oratory. From Santanyi, the quiet road to Cap de Ses Salines is a pleasant stroll. You're likely to find fewer crowds than on the region's usual overly urbanized beaches.
