Pollença (population over 17,000) is a small town nestled in fertile countryside at the foot of the Puig de Pollença and Calavari mountains. It is thought to have been founded in prehistoric times. The site was occupied by Romans, Vandals and then Arabs, driven out by Jaume I in 1229. Today, it's a rich and charming commune with a rich heritage. It is also culturally very active, with art galleries, traditional festivals and an international music and painting festival held in the superb Santo Domingo convent. Golf enthusiasts can perfect their swing among the olive trees of the Pollença green.
