Museum that exhibits a large number of works from the former Southern Netherlands in Brussels
This museum is part of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. It exhibits a large number of works from the former Southern Netherlands dating from the 15th to the 18th century. All these paintings were made by the greatest artists of the time such as Jerome Bosch, Pieter Breughel, Peter Paul Rubens or Simon Vouet. All the great names of "Flemish art" are here, so many wonders. This prestigious collection originated during the French Revolution and was in full swing when the Belgians gained their independence. Among the works not to be missed: the study of the Moor's Head by Rubens, which shows how the artist worked; the room devoted to Breughel, which mixes mythological scenes(The Fall of Icarus, one of his best-known paintings), biblicalscenes (The Fall of the Rebel Angels, full of details and seemingly coming out of a horrible nightmare) or scenes of daily life(Winter Landscape with skaters and bird trap, where the characters seem to come to life). There is also a whole section dedicated to Dutch landscape paintings, which were very popular in the 17th and 18th centuries, and to the painters of the Dutch Golden Age, with several works by Frans Hals, who was one of the three star artists of his time, along with Rembrandt and Vermeer.
The visit concludes with a very famous painting that is often seen in history books: Marat assassinated by Jacques-Louis David, who produced this work in exile in Brussels.

La collection est unique au monde : des oeuvres majeures de Memling, Bosch, Bruegel, Rubens ...
Ce musée dépasse l'imagination. Le point faible : l'organisation et la gestion du patrimoine est déplorable.
Les salles sont mal éclairées (éviter la tombée de la nuit) et il n'y a pas si longtemps que les problèmes
d'humidité semblent avoir été réglés dans la monumentale salle des Rubens : manque de moyens.
A côté de cela, le personnel fait tous les efforts pour rendre votre visite agréable.
En résumé : à voir de toute urgence, au moins une fois dans sa vie, c'est ici et pas ailleurs dans le monde !
