Trujillo, capital of the department of La Libertad, is a condensed version of Peru. Trujillo has well deserved its name of "city of the eternal spring", with a dry climate and a temperature swinging between 19 and 24 °C. Surrounded by prestigious vestiges, such as Chan Chan, this pleasant colonial city is a very appreciated stop between north and south, costa and sierra. Trujillo is one of the richest cities in colonial buildings. Its inhabitants are welcoming and live on average better than their compatriots. The old town is quiet and clean. Trujillo has the reputation of a dangerous city where many robberies take place. This is true in the outskirts, but the historical center is safe and, as we said, beautiful. Salaverry, located 17 km away, is Trujillo's fishing and yachting port; Huanchaco, its seaside resort, is good for surfing and has become the drop-off point for backpackers who visit the region by putting their bags on the beach.
