We arrive in the city founded by the Spaniard Diego Palomino in 1549, on the banks of the Chinchipe river, after having crossed the Abra de Porculla, the lowest pass of the Peruvian Andes (2,040 m). Close to the Marañón, Jaén has developed the cultivation of cocoa, coffee, tobacco and rice thanks to its hot and humid tropical climate. The city would be of no interest to us if it were not one of the gateways to the Amazon. Those who are there on September 14 will have the privilege to attend the Fiesta del Señor de Huamantanga which, since 1870, attracts a large crowd.Beware of mosquitoes, agents of malaria, because we are already in the Amazon!
