The second highest peak in Peru, the Yarupajá (6,634 m), belongs to this 40 km long mountain range, southwest of La Unión. Good climbers will reach the starting point, 140 km from Huánuco, driving to Dos de Mayo, Llicllatambo, and then, by a deviation, to Choras, Baños and Queropalea. From there, a mule track leads to the green Laguna Carhuacocha, and then, 15 km further on, brings you to the foot of the mountain. In general this mythical Cordillera is proposed via guided treks from Huaraz, it delimits the regions of Huanuco and Ancash and is without question the most technical of the Cordilleras. Beautiful viewpoints by clear weather.
