The Casa de la Viuda de Alcalá, is one of the beautiful buildings distributed along the arcades of the Plaza de Armas. Today it has been converted into the presbytery of the University of Huamanga. It is here that the general and hero of independence, Antonio José de Sucre, rested his battered carcass after his triumph in the battle of Ayacucho on December 9, 1824. His victory meant the disappearance of the last viceroyalty still standing, that of Peru.
