QOYLLUR RITI
Cusco
Petit Futé's opinion on QOYLLUR RITI

One of the largest indigenous events in Latin America! The Apus, the tutelary mounts, are celebrated at the foot of the Ausangate glacier, at an altitude of 4,700 m, in the Sinakara sanctuary. Members of the Quechua Queros community go to the top of the glacier (6,362 m above sea level!) to discover the snow star. The event receives between 500,000 and 600,000 pilgrims each year, 10% of whom are representatives of local nations. One can participate in the event by camping below provided one is well prepared physically.
