At 250 km north of Puno, this small city constitutes a pleasant stop for the exhausted traveller. Located at the foot of the Apu Jururo, this village has preserved, in its often tortuous streets, an important park of colonial houses with oversized wooden balconies. Sicuani, gateway to the Puna, a steppe landscape with short grass, the ichu, which extends to Puno and La Paz, is busy as soon as the train stops and never stops buzzing. There are a few hotels and restaurants for travelers who want to do the Puno - Cusco route in several days. It is also a good stopover for those who wish to reach Vinicunca without passing through Cusco
