The White City celebrates the anniversary of its foundation with pride. Parades and traditional dances are on the program.
The festivities are spread out over a week before and after the key day of the anniversary of the city which takes place on August 15, date of the creation of Arequipa in 1540 by the Spaniards. They are well relayed by the population which is keen to mark its own identity. From August 12, the city starts to vibrate and one regularly attends demonstrations of the typical regional dance, the Arequipeño carnival, around the Plaza de Armas. It is also the occasion for handicraft ferias. Do not hesitate to congratulate the Arequipeños on this anniversary.
