At 90 km of Moquegua, the charming small port of Ilo shows a beautiful health: fishing port, it is also the point of embarkation of the copper extracted from Toquepala, at nearly 4 000 m of altitude. The city is in full expansion, in particular following the economic agreements passed recently with Bolivia which, contrary to Peru, does not have a maritime outlet. Tourism is also flourishing since a few years in this region (even if the beaches are not very attractive for swimming). The most touristic weeks are in the middle of February and at the end of May, without forgetting the festival of San Pedro y San Pablo on June 29th.
