30 km north of Pisco, this small chaotic city passes a little unnoticed. It is however the cradle of the Afro culture and shelters an important community of blacks who came from Africa to cultivate the Peruvian cotton. The huge haciendas San José and San Regis passed from the hands of the Jesuits to the clutches of the big owners, they suffered a lot from the earthquake of 2007, but San José was reopened as a luxury hotel in 2012. Outside the city, there are many lodges where Limenians come to spend a weekend with their toes in the air. Chincha is very commercial and lively, populated by a wide variety of merchants.
