The city, located in the department of Ica, gave its name to the most popular drink of Peru - manufactured however to 75 km of there -, itself borrowed to the ancient indigenous inhabitants of the site, fine potters who turned immense jars where fermented the divine beverage. The Spaniards adopted the sweet liquor, leaving the name of the inventors (a rare concession to the indigenous genius).
