At the southeastern tip of Florida, the famous Miami is a great seductress, cosmopolitan, artistic, festive, benevolent, permissive and voluptuous. It is both a financial and cultural centre, at the forefront of contemporary art and design, and a city of leisure and entertainment, fashion and pleasure. From the airport corridor, the tone is set with the presentation of works of art. The city is full of art galleries, art museums (MoCA, Bass Museum of Art), remarkable design hotels and a programme of prestigious dance shows or concerts. A few hours by boat from the Bahamas, Miami is already a little bit like the Caribbean, whose influence can be seen in Little Havana. But the spectacular is Miami Beach with its marinas and luxury skyscrapers, Art Deco buildings, white sandy beaches and trendy nightclubs. For shopping in the direction of Coconut Grove iy Bayside, a huge shopping centre on the water with luxurious shops. South Beach (SoBe) and Ocean Drive live 24 hours a day, with their lively cafés all day long and their clubs where people celebrate until the end of the night. And if you want to escape the city, two iconic national parks are nearby: Biscayne National Park, accessible by boat, and Everglades Park. Even children benefit from it with the Miami Children's Museum, Monkey Jungle and Jungle Island, Miami Seaquarium and Miami Metrozoo. There is so much to do and so much to see that your tourist guide will be very useful to you!

When to go Miami ?

It is advisable to go to Miami between November and April. This is the dry season: the temperatures are not excessive, the humidity is reduced. We avoid the hurricane season, from June to November. Officially, the hurricane season begins on June 1st and ends on November 30th, even if storms can occur outside this period. Between two large bodies of water with high hurricane activity, Miami is the city with the highest hurricane risk, along with Nassau (Bahamas) and Havana, Cuba. It is home to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and warnings are reliable. During the hurricane season, short showers occur almost every day, making the already warm atmosphere (about 35°C) very humid. In winter, the mild temperatures make the region a magnet for crowds of retirees. It is an ideal time of year, but it is crowded and prices are at their highest. To fully appreciate the charms of Miami without being too crowded, it is better to stay in spring or fall... Spring is beautiful (especially April and May). The air is warm, the humidity is still bearable and the vegetation is in full bloom. In autumn, the vegetation turns red and gold, the temperatures are pleasant, the humidity measured.

Every year in December, the very attractive Art Basel is held, a contemporary art fair that brings together 250 prestigious galleries from all over the world and attracts over 50,000 visitors.

Other attractive dates include the popular Spa Month and the Spice Restaurant Program in the summer.

There arealso several sporting events. Every year in January, the ING Marathon is held, attracting 22,000 runners. Miami Sailing Week is a major event in March, especially on the island of Key Biscayne.

Discover Miami

Before we even set foot in the city, we all have images of Miami in our heads. Usually, they are accompanied by multicolored neon lights, palm trees and long white sand beaches. We think of the South Beach district, in the city of Miami Beach. But on the other side of the bridge, there is Miami, with its buildings, vintage motels, exotic and artistic neighborhoods. What is the genesis of this particular Art Deco architecture and why did it almost disappear? There is also the Cuban culture, omnipresent in particular through the language and cuisine. In South Beach, the famous Art Deco District (classified as a historic site) with its 800 pastel buildings reminds us that Miami was one of the flagships of this architectural style from the 1920s to the 1930s. The signs and their neon lights that illuminate at nightfall bring a flashy side to the geometric facades surrounded by palm trees.

2. Lifeguard huts

Multicolored and mythical, they are on all postcards of Miami. About thirty Art Deco style lifeguard cabins are to be discovered on the 10 kilometers of beach between 86th Street and South Point Beach. Our favorite huts: the stars and stripes in the colors of the American flag and the jetty in the shape of a red and white lighthouse.

3. Cinema

Miami is a real movie set. Among the most famous shows: Miami Vice, 2 Cops in Miami, Dexter and Burn Notice. On the other hand, the series CSI: Miami was shot in studios in Los Angeles. On the movie side, Scarface Bad Boys, Scarface and Some Like It Hot, to name a few, were shot in the Magic City.
