Tuscania is a small town of about 8,000 inhabitants that is worth a visit if only for its picturesque character. The walls of the medieval city were destroyed in an earthquake, but the narrow streets are still reminiscent of the Middle Ages and there is a tranquil, timeless atmosphere. A little outside the town, where the centre of the ancient city stood, you should also see the Romanesque churches of San Pietro and Santa Maria Maggiore, which date back to the 11th and 12th centuries respectively. Finally, in Piazza Basil, pay attention to the belvedere which is decorated with nine Etruscan tomb covers
