At the limit of Tuscany and Lazio, Vulci was an important Etruscan city, rival of Rome. The decadence of Vulci will begin in the third century BC, when Rome will integrate it into its Empire after conquering it. It will be permanently abandoned in the viiith century. The most suggestive monument in the Vulci area is the impressive bridge called «rainbow» (i. e., I century BC) which, at 30 m high, underlies the Fiora, under the medieval castle of Badia (thirteenth century), seat of the present archeological museum.
