Of the ancient castle of Saint-Jean-Lachalm, known as Mirmande, which once occupied a mound, only a section of wall and a defensive ditch probably predate it remain. According to the cartulary of the Templars of Puy-en-Velay, between the end of the 11th century and the middle of the 14th century, the building had a chapel dedicated to Saint Peter, which was then attached to the local parish and to the Sainte-Croix de La Volte priory founded in 1025 by Odilon de Mercœur. A path leading towards the Allier gorges leads to the remains of this castle, which in all likelihood was destroyed in the 15th century, although it was still mentioned during the Revolution
