An active craft centre, the village offers a beautiful view of the island, especially from its lookout point on arrival from Victoria. It was formerly called Caccia (the Hunt) because this plateau was supposed to be a favourable place for this activity. Xaghra, to be pronounced "shara", means heath. We are far from it today, the new districts are still growing. The atmosphere of the village is concentrated around its pretty little square. It is there that the church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Victoire is located, in a completely baroque style. You can also visit two of Gozo's major sites, the prehistoric temple of Ggantija and the Ta'Kola windmill
