This former district of the parish of Naxxar was separated from it in 1610 and has since become a lively little town with a population of almost 3,000 inhabitants. In its main street, next to the cemetery, you can see the first parish church of St. John, but perhaps the most interesting is St. Bartholomew's Church, which has many Baroque elements, and some of its statues parade through the streets on Good Friday. Its great festa takes place on 24th August and, throughout the week, the town lives to the rhythm of street decorations, brass bands, fireworks and numerous nougat and ice cream stands
