The name of this city of more than 11,000 inhabitants evokes olive trees. Indeed, zejtuna means "olive" in Arabic and in September the city hosts a festival dedicated to the collection and pressing of olives. You will notice its church of Saint Catherine, its pleasant streets which in the centre retain their medieval aspect and the slow rhythm typical of Maltese villages. The main square is surrounded by elegant streets (Triq il-Bon Kunsill) with colourful balconies and small streets where it is good to get lost. At a roundabout at the entrance of the town, you will probably see the bust of Michael Abela, a figure of an art still very much appreciated here: singing.
