Nestled at an average altitude of 900 m, on the Devès plateau a few kilometres from Le Puy-en-Velay, Saint-Christophe-sur-Dolaison has a population of nearly 1,000. If vestiges attest an occupation since the Neolithic period (around 5 000 years BC), it is its Romanesque church of the 11th-12th century and its castle of the 15th century which remain the most remarkable monuments. The third commune crossed by the Via Podiensis from Le Puy, Saint-Christophe has many other treasures: remains of hydraulic mills from the 13th century, crosses, wash-house, watering place, wells, fountains, door lintels made of volcanic stone or arkose and caves in the La Roche sector.
