A town in the Montfaucon region, Riotord is located on the western side of the northern Cévennes crossed by the Tracol, which marks the boundary between the Pilat massif and the Boutières, between the Loire and the Ardèche. This commune of 1,200 inhabitants, in the midst of unspoilt nature, rises from an altitude of 788 m at the confluence of the Clavarine and Dunière rivers, to 1,380 m at Pyfara. With its 5,200 hectares, it is one of the largest municipalities in Haute-Loire. The village houses a magnificent Romanesque church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste (12th century) and many shops and services. Several sections of the old railway line that has become the green track are located in the municipality. Unusual: the presence of a replica of the cave of Lourdes. And May 8th is the morel fair. Here passes the Via Fluvia which has its wooden chalet. A pond is on the circuit. Several cottages are open for rent, including one Bienvenue à la ferme and one located in the middle of the woods.
