Here's an exception in the Napa Valley, since Calistoga is more about water than wine! More spa than vineyard, in fact... Let's face it, we love this village, spared from mass tourism, which delights us with its quirky, refreshing atmosphere. On the menu: small bars and brasseries, friendly eccentric locals, retro motels, no-frills spas and Mexican mobile homes. An ideal base from which to discover the real Napa, which exudes a gentle way of life, far from the beaten track and organized tours. Start with a breakfast of homemade porridge and pancakes, stroll along the main road of this small town with its pretty stores, some of which are housed in old train carriages, and then set off to discover the paths of an authentic rural valley. And while many visitors come to the region primarily for the wines, Calistoga is also a place to enjoy the waters. The site is home to hot springs and was a famous spa in the 19th century. You can even have your body covered in the local volcanic mud, reputed to be beneficial to health. While you're here, take a look at the Old Faithful geyser, a geothermal eruption located along Tubbs Lane, which erupts on a regular basis. Calistoga's little postcard option: the retro gas station at the entrance to the village, where you'll love filling up your car.
