Beautifully preserved mission in Carmel featuring a beautiful garden with an elegant touch and a gallery
Here we are in the second mission established in California in June 1770. Beautifully preserved, it was erected as a basilica by Pope John XXIII. It has a beautiful garden filled with fragrant roses that gives the Harry Downie Museum (the name of the mission's conservator) an elegant touch. The Mora Chapel gallery houses the cenotaph of Junipero Serra, a Spanish Franciscan priest who founded several missions in California besides Carmel.

Site very pleasant to visit because it is very calm and good preserved. A haven of peace and authenticity in the heart of a chic but very artificial city.
