The largest US dragon boat competition is held on Lake Merritt Lake in Oakland, in September. More than 120 canoes each with 20 paddlers compete on 300 and 500 meter races. More than just competition, it's a real carnival that offers animations, attractions for children and even a real opening ceremony!
