Petit Futé's opinion on BALMY ALLEY

Vintage plate 2020

It is in this small alleyway that the largest concentration of wall paintings in San Francisco is found. The first began in the 1970 s where frescoes were used by local and international artists as critics of political abuse and human rights claims in Central America. Today the alley contains wall paintings on a range of topics such as AIDS in Africa or the phenomenon of neighborhood gentrification. These actions, encouraged by the San Francisco Art Commission and local associations, are regularly renewed. You will surely cross the artists in the middle of work. On November 1, the Dia de los Muertos parade, which celebrates the Dead Party, begins here.
