A visit to this museum is a must if you want to learn more about the history and culture of Rakiura. As of December 2020, the museum has had a facelift in a more modern building thanks to charitable funds. Exhibits include Maori settlement, the history of fishing and hunting on the island (still practiced in the south of the island). Visitors can also discover the local art scene with exhibitions of island artists and a store selling locally made items.
