Located between the Canterbury region and the West Coast, this national park of over 99,000 hectares was created in 1929. As one of the most beautiful areas of the South Island, in the heart of the Southern Alps, accessing it is a wonder in itself: the road from Christchurch to Greymouth cuts through the mountains and is of an unbelievable majesty, between river, valley, mountains and rocky chaos. The area is full of unforgettable and wild hikes. The trails are known to be some of the most hazardous in the country. As the area has remained extremely wild, the main activity remains the contemplation of nature and skiing (Temple Basin).
